Pieces of a Dragon Puzzle

*I would like to state that I never have and never will flame someone. I believe writing is meant to be enjoyed and if you don't like something then don't read it. With that said, I would also like to say that I am just doing this to share fics that I have read and came to love.

Pieces of a Dragon Puzzle by venetianstar

Summary: Kurt had really only planned to spy on the Warblers. But instead he was found out by a creepy Asian, got stuck with a heavy stone which turned out not be a stone at all and now he had a flying lizard at home who was at risk of burning down his entire wardrobe with every fiery sneeze.

This story is rated M, WIP, with 6 chapters to date, and around 37k words to date.
Categories listed as: Romance and Humor (I also add Angst to that list, because my heart all but broke during on of the chapters)

Characters: Kurt. Oh Kurt. I definitely have mixed feelings for her Kurt. Personally, I started out 100% for him, but as the story progresses it's hard not to find yourself getting angry at him and his actions. However, taking a step back it's easy to realize that even though you just want to slap some sense into him at some points, he's really just a scared teenage boy who's vastly overwhelmed with almost everything in his life. It doesn't make you any less irritated but the author has him so well written and fleshed out you can definitely see where his character is coming from.
Her Finn is easy to love. Hands down. I've read all different types of Finn, and venetianstar's doesn't fall into any of the stereotypes surrounding his character and then exaggerating it to the extreme. Just like any canon-esque Finn he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed but he isn't some bumbling oaf not able to think for himself. He definitely has his crafty moments.
Lastly, Blaine. I love her Blaine. I won't ruin the story from the get go and say too much about him, but as I read this, I felt for him every step of the way, and with only five chapters in, I'm assuming this story is just getting started.

Writing Style: Fantastic! There are character breaks pretty often the first chapter, but those definitely lighten up after that, and personally, I don't think they're choppy. They serve their purpose and help the story along with the timeline instead exasperatingly explaining every detail on how a character got to school. Sometimes those moments are nice and can help the story along - i.e. something big could happen on the way to school - but to be honest, some author's abuse them and leave wanting to grab them and tell them to get on with it.
I love how she writes her characters, but most of all I love how she doesn't tell the reader everything the character is feeling, but describes it through their actions and expressions. Nothing can make a story more tedious than too much explanation.

Mainly I love this story because I'm really interested to see where the author is taking it. I know this isn't the only dragon story out there involving Kurt and Blaine, but this is one of the most original ideas I've seen within this certain category, and to be perfectly honest, I didn't think I'd like this story as much as I do when I first started reading it.

Summary: Sherlock proposes. John thinks the whole idea is ludicrous. Each one-shot continues from the initial summary. Showing Asexual!Sherlock and John and their relationship through the years

--No rating listed; however, I give it a M (if only because of mentions of dead bodies and violence), complete with about 52k words.
--No categories listed, but I label as: Romance and fluff
**Warning: This is a Sherlock fic, so mentions of dead bodies but none I would label graphic

I loved how cute this 'verse is. No unnecessary angst and not so much fluff that is borders on illogical actions and nonsense.

404 Error: File Not Found by nejem

Prompt: Old!Sherlock is diagnosed with dementia. As his memory loss progresses, he writes little reminders and puts them up everywhere--reminders on pretty much anything, from the day's errands to observations or random facts to memories. As his mind gets worse he writes fewer notes, with more and more of them being about John. In the end his last note is a barely legible scrawl with only John's name.

--No rating listed; however, I give it a K, complete with about 550 words.
--No categories listed, but I label as: Romance
**Warning of Character Death

Not much to say other than this is sweet and even though it isn't long the ending will have you near tears.

Of Our Hands by klainekittens

Blaine barely survived his last school, and now he’s the new kid at McKinley High. He didn’t expect to make any friends, especially not one as popular and handsome as Kurt Hummel. As their friendship grows, Kurt begins to discover that Blaine has a unique set of needs, and Kurt is determined to take care of him. Jock!Kurt AU, deals with issues of touch starvations and a dominant/submissive relationship.

This story is rated NC-17, WIP with 14 chapters so far, and around 50,000 words to date.
Categories listed as: AU, D/s, (I also add Romance, and Hurt/comfort)
**Warnings of homophobia and mild violence

Characters: Once again, I was very impressed with Kurt. Unlike some AUs where there's a Badboy!Kurt or Jock!Kurt the author will take him to the extreme. He'll dress complete opposite of canon, drink/smoke all the time, and most times, sleep with any male that he thinks is attractive. However, that isn't the case with klainekitten's Kurt. He's a jock, yes, but really only in the true aspect of the word - he plays sports. Kurt hangs out with Puck and Finn more, so he's more aggressive than canon Kurt, and he does dress less flamboyantly, but other than that, I feel he remains very close to "the original."
Blaine in this story isn't too much like his canon self - instead of energetic puppy, I would go so far as to compare him to a wounded deer. What I really liked with the Blaine in this story though was that even though he was very beaten down, he knew how to stick up for himself when the situation called for it.

Writing Style: KlaineKitten's writing style in this story is simple but it's almost elegant in being so. She paints her AU wonderfully, you aren't confused wondering where the character is, geographically and physically (e.x. saying they're in a chair on moment and then the next they're somehow in the middle of baking). What I really liked was the way she was able to convey what her characters were feeling. Lastly, she's able to switch from Kurt's pov to Blaine's within the story in an almost seamless way. There's no rehashing of events that already occurred and personally, I don't feel it takes away from the story.

Overall, I think Of Our Hands is a sweet story with it's ups and downs, but ultimately it boils down to two young men falling into an almost total power exchange relationship without even realizing something that like exists, let alone know that it's happening.

**This one actually came to attention thanks to Scarves and Coffee recommending it at the top of their site :)

The Prince and the Song by E Harper

Kurt is the Prince of Vaerithea, a kingdom filled with natural and magical wonders. The Prince, however, is dying. The King will not accept this fate and sends his knights to find the only mythical object he believes will cure his son's illness: The Song of Salvation. How will the King react upon the discovery that the Song is, in actuality, an immortal boy who calls himself Blaine? And what happens when they realize that Blaine cannot, in fact, sing any song at all? Kurt, oddly, is not concerned...

This story is rated M, WIP with 6 chapters to date, and as of right now 8937 words.
Categories listed as: AU, Drama, H/C, Romance

Characters: I really liked this story firstly because of her Kurt. He wasn't the beaten down type you often see in hurt/comfort fics. Instead he was head strong - in a non "I'm going to be blind to everything else" way - and he was very upfront with what he believed and who he was.
Burt is portrayed as a very protective, but calm and reasonable man. I really loved that even though he cared about Kurt, he didn't blow his top and yell every time something didn't go right, or if Kurt got something as tiny as a paper cut.
Blaine is the third character that's also very present in this story. Much like Burt, he's very calm. However, he in no way blends into the background. If a fictional character could ever be described as "radiating a wise calm" it would be this Blaine.

Writing Style: E Harper's writing style can be described as nice and easy. She's descriptive in the right amounts (e.x. doesn't spend an entire paragraph describing a lake or a forest) and she also doesn't have her characters going off into internal monologues all the time. I can honestly say, I have read those types of stories and had to stop reading them because I couldn't force myself to read something that started to become dry. After all, reading should be fun :)
One more thing I also loved, the emotions she's able to make her character's portray. Honestly, I think it's done beautifully. Simple as that.

All in all, I feel E Harper's characters are very life like, her writing style flows seamlessly with the AU world she's painted, and I definitely can't wait till the next update.

Game Plan... Of sorts

Okay, so I definitely feel kind of silly for having an Lj account and not posting anything. I honestly only created it so I could track the tags of stories like.

So, just for the heck of it, I'm going to start posting recs of my favorite stories that I've read
